Please purchase or order enough yarn for your project at the outset, as the slight variations from painting session to painting session cannot be intentionally repeated.

We use a variety of base yarns. Our worsted and bulky, wool and mohair blend is proudly spun by Brown Sheep Company, Inc. We are delighted to partner with them in this endeavor. We have a wonderful silk and wool dk weight, two choices of a loopy mohair option, and a baby llama with a bit of sparkle is also worsted weight. Catherine is researching new and different sources for the most interesting and economically appealing yarns to add.

Care Instructions

All of our yarns are cool water, hand wash products, and care instructions are provided on the product tags. We recommend the following washing instructions:

1.  Using cool water and you favorite wool wash, appropriate for fine fibers, merely follow the product instructions.  In many cases soaking only is the suitable treatment, and no rinsing is required.  If you are working with a very strong, intense color,  you may wish to add a very small amount of white vinegar to this solution.

2.  Gently squeeze the excess water from your knitted or crocheted piece, roll gently in a towel to further absorb excess moisture and lay flat to dry.

ABOUT OUR YARNS

These ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ yarns are individually hand painted. You will notice that each skein is unique, and each skein used with others of the same color create a beautifully tonal solid. Each of our colors can be used with one or more other Red Barn colorways, and luminesce the coordinating undertones. Slight variations are natural in hand painted yarns. For best results, alternate skeins as you create your project. Please purchase or order enough yarn for your project at the outset.
